I have these four models there is no Superfast text on the base and no #, just the name Mercury I have had them over 20 years.

Charlie Mack listed these versions together with the earlier ones under MB 59-B, based on this model's most recent original issue number in the basic range (where it was the number 59 Mercury Fire Chief Car from 1971 to 1974).
The casting lost the number on the base when the model was reissued in the two pack range in 1977. As with other reissues it was allocated a new number for internal use on that occasion which was created by addition of 800 to its original issue number. It therefore became MB 859.
Beside being available in two packs and gift sets and in the US Code Red range (the latter in 1981), the casting was also used as a temporary replacement for the number 10 Plymouth Gran Fury Police Car when that model's mould was damaged in 1982. Thus it became a single basic range issue once again for a few months, available in several different liveries normally associated with the Plymouth.
The model still retained the number MB 859 (now as its so-called "MAN number") when it was again reissued for the US Superfast range in 1986, later to be followed by outings in the Laser Wheels and Roadblasters ranges. These versions were made in Macau, and the casting's career finally came to an end when it was made in China fitted with 8 dot wheels and with a slightly simplified Superfast/Laser Wheels livery. That final variation was mainly available on the Chinese domestic market in the early 1990s, but was also reported from Africa (Zimbabwe).
