The seller a UK expat who in retirement is selling off the gifts he got from his antique dealer dad a long while ago. I can't wait to see what else he digs up as French Dinky are unusual here but one in this condition is extraordinary.
Boy Oh Boy!... I can't believe I missed this one! What a beauty for the collection...

I am not intending to take anything away from the glory of securing the 'Railcar', it is the catch of the Year for this forum, but it is not actually based on a Bugatti design, sure they did build about 100 railcars, but In the February, March and April 1938 issues of the English Meccano Magazine, the model is wrongly called "Railcar Bugatti type". Meccano noticed it's error and in the June 1938 Meccano Magazine the name becomes "Diesel Railcar".

Six colours are known for this model with the earliest versions having Aluminum roller wheels and smooth roof interiors around the Three flow holes. The general concensus is, that it is merely a Meccano design.

Having said all that, what a corker of a model in such excellent condition, I don't want to be around when you sell that, as I am sure to pass out with shock...

Thanks for the info Ghosty....really useful.

Would you believe the princely sum of 35 quid changed hands for this beauty. A brief Google after I received it to check other recent sales knocked me back a bit......

Dave, what has happened to the edge of the lower box in your last picture, looks pretty serious.

Yeah, it got munched by something.....luckily it reduced the cost, then remarkably I came across just a box top. Now with about an hours work I have the inner packing pieces....job done.
