I have to disagree with Hans (sorry buddy), those look like they were never spun. I suspect the model was taken home by a factory worker and then the rivet modified (set) at home. However, judging by some of the different and unusual ways rivets have been done at the factory, I would not be shocked to discover this was done at the factory.

I agree with Joe (Tinman): unspun rivets which have been folded over using a blunt imp0lement. This could be factory work but, since all other examples I've seen have used a chisel or slotted screwdriver, I suspect not.

This looks like a chisel rivet just offset to hold the base, but only hit once to keep the base on. As Tinman has said could be factory but very nice indeed John. I like ones like this as they are not that easy to find or see.

Thanks for the comments everyone. It was only a few Euros and I'm pleased to have this even if I won't ever know the full story.

I believe it was more than likely made this way in the factory, There were thousands of completed toys just laying around the factory so why bother nicking pieces and then go through the bother of having to assemble them yourself.

Definitely does not look drilled out to me. There is usually nothing left of original rivet when you do that.

Have we not seen this kind of rivet damage before when the rivet is mis-alligned with the riveting machine?
