Also a significant difference in how the rivets have been spun (which may well be what "old clench" refers to).matchboxtom wrote:I bought these as a pair on ebay a few years ago. One base missing Pat Applied

I am not sure of the correct terminology, but the top model's rivets were simply pressed down to create the distinctive cavity.Idris wrote:Also a significant difference in how the rivets have been spun (which may well be what "old clench" refers to).matchboxtom wrote:I bought these as a pair on ebay a few years ago. The lower model clearly has had a different method, as these rivets have had something spin on them under pressure and unfortunately lends itself to fakery as it would not take much for someone to replicate this style on a model.

Here is my pre-pro Ford Group 6 similar to Tom's two examples.
I was informed by the seller that the wheels were a trial design.

That's nice, never seen that sty of wheel before
A quick question. .why use adhesive labels on painted surfaces? Surely it can cause damage I have seen a few members doing this 'wouldn't a tie on tag be better
This is not having a pop at anyone just an observation

That's a possible fact a Al and to be fair the labels on mbtoms are very similar
It's just a pet hate of mine especially when price tags at fair's are done this way

Re: Superfast Casting # 45
There were 2 types of these trial design black wheels, one type is smooth and the other has the usual pattern. Many years ago I was also informed by an ex Lesney employee that the labels were stuck on the back of these models at the factory for identification purposes, hope this is useful info.
Re: Superfast Casting # 45
very helpful Rob
you are correct Al and these are factory applied if the information given to Rob is correct (no reason to doubt it at all) I for one would have removed them thinking it was a previous owners way of recording their collection ,
I wonder how many have making the same mistake
