My favorite LLEDO

I love these vw's . I just cant explain why . Are there many variations with these lledo's.

There's a few. You would have to look in Ed Force's book to get the list (I sold his book when I sold my LLEDO collection). When Ed's health began to go bad, he decided to sell off his massive collection of LLEDO models. I cherry picked the ones I wanted from his collection.

I owned just about every variation of the real 1:1 VW vans that you can imagine. I had a very large aircooled VW diecast collection that contained many scales and brands (with the expection of Hotwheels, they are not allowed in my home, not then, not now and not ever).

Here's one of the VW service garages where I worked. The buiding is long gone but that sign, with an complete functional VW on top, was a local landmark and was only removed last month. Unfortunatly, the VW didn't look quite as nice (when it came down) as it does in this photo from around the 1973.

LLedo did a great job getting the proportions of this van just about perfect,and those chromed wheels are the right shade too -all in all a modern collectable that looks like a classic 1960s Tekno toy.........
I spy a new VW Rabbit to the right,what year were they first sold in USA? Will the Beetle from the top of the sign be restored or is it scrap now? In europe when I have seen cars on dealership signs or roofs they tend to change them periodically for a fresh uptodate model although wreckers yards are known to have gate guardians on display for decades sometimes!

IIRC 1975. I know the bug went up on the sign in 1973, the photo must be from a couple of years later. Those USA version Rabbits were quick but awful cars. They were not nearly as reliable as the bug and required frequent repairs.

Will the Beetle from the top of the sign be restored or is it scrap now?

Because of the history behind this particular car, it is headed for restoration.

We (me) wired the headlights and the horn to work, the horn could be operated using a button at the service desk.
