I think a retooling is unlikely for two reasons. First, and most importantly, if it worked, why change it? Second, the retooling would involve significant work since material would need to be added to the die rather than removed. A whole new tool segment would therefore be required.
Sorry Idris as i seem to have overlooked your post again.
Should it not be the other way around IE material only from the one part of the die(presumably top) be removed rather than added in order to heighten the tail-end ridge of the tipper by 1.5mm?

One cannot do much with all the monies in this world but can do much more if he strives toward contentment.

Strange, I've just checked and I could have sworn that Nick had the ridged bed variation listed both at the beginning and at end of the variation table, my rationale for the above statement being that examples of the original, ridged casting were found in the stockroom and used for production towards the end of the model's life. Hence my comment about the need to remove the ridge from the tooling by adding material/recutting the tool segment.
It did used to be listed at the beginning and end of the variation table.
The maroon tipper with the ridged bed is listed in the Stannard but it has never been seen.
The dark red tipper with the ridged bed that is not listed in the Stannard has been seen several times,
I decided to remove the earlier maroon version as its complete existence is thrown into doubt, No point in repeating mistakes made in the past I guess.
Of course I will be happy to add them back but we need proof that they exist.
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.
