ARRIVED TODAY

Post by motorman »

A Couple of very nice SF's arrived today. Many thanks to Tim (tjlglass), for the SF#56 thin wheel, wide arch, I have been looking for one for ages!!!!!!!.

If anyone has got a spare mint type F Box for an SF#56 I would be interested in it, please PM me!

As for the modrod....well i know the engines can be easily swapped but i paid very little for this example.......under a tenner!!! So i am happy with that.

Cheers

Congratulations on this one!

The 5 square front wheels not only make the black engine seem credible, but they make this model even more interesting in my view.

Since this variation would most likely have come in a multi-pack, the box is probably not correct for it.

Christian, thanks for your comments.

It has always been a concern of mine that the black engined Modrods were not factory issues and were all engine swaps from the silver streak.

Can you confirm that Modrods did leave the factory with black engines in Multi-packs and if so would they have had different variations of the cat label??

Thanks Numi,

I love the #56, i have been looking for this thin wheel/wide wheel arch variation for such a long time, and had given up on finding one, so when Tim offered one for sale i went for it, and thankfully he was happy to do a great deal.

Hope you are well bonnie lass.

Congrats on both purchases, MM! Re. the Mod Rod, that’s a nice little find.. a minter like that, you’ve got a real bargain for the price. You say the engine can be swapped, but how easy (or hard) is it to remove the engine, in the first place? Are there any tell-tale signs that show the engine’s been swapped or otherwise tampered with?

Btw, good luck in finding a mint box (soon) for the No. 56!

Cheers,

Ken

It is very easy, and any scratch marks left are in areas which you cannot see while the engine is in place.

I am reposting some pictures I have posted on various boards before, as it seems some are still unaware of this.

I am not perfectly sure about this. Anyway, if there is a genuine Mod Rod with a black engine, it would most likely be like yours, with the later body casting, the later (spotted cat) label and the 5 square front wheels.

Thanks for the info and pics, Christian, most illuminating! I always thought the No.1's engine was affixed more rigidly/permanently. I've never tried messing with mine, too scared of damaging it in some way. Nice to have the benefit of your guidance and experience!

Cheers,

Ken
