I am glad you are back on-line Numi and for all of us here, this is a good example of something I mentioned elsewhere about keeping your computer on Auto Update, the answer is don't. Everybody should switch off the function and only manually search and choose the updates you want, it simply is down to the poor management at Microsoft and their rubbish software!

What on earth do they keep sending to our computers through these constant updates...'Patches' that's what and these patches (little bundles of software), are designed to be inserted into the main code installed in your computer to help it operate smoothly (operate smoothly and Microsoft don't seem to go together too well and never will!), and no one here with domestic specification home computers will notice any difference or improvement from these updates.

As long as you have got some good antivirus software installed from one of the leading companies like Kaspersky, Norton etc, etc, you don't need to keep having your computer updated, it causes more problems to the system you don't need.

A windows "update" caused my laptop to not recognize my password when I typed it in which meant I was unable to use it in any way. Using another laptop I found instructions on how to resolve the problem and managed to restore my laptop back to how it was. Microsoft were of no help at all so I would definitely turn off auto update, I understand Windows 10 does not give you the option so I would avoid updating to Windows 10.

Over the years, the majority of my problems have resulted from Windows updates. They are a pain! Windows 10 doesn't have the option to notify and install on user request, it wants to force them through which is bad news. There are a couple of workrounds to prevent this happening but I would steer clear of 10 at the moment as well.

I had the very same problem and i felt like a stranger...

Your problem was similar to the one that I had but on my machine the .BAK had to be removed completely to restore it. It shows that Microsoft are releasing untested software which for a company as large as Microsoft is a complete and utter joke.
