Have you ever seen....

Post by Ecclesley »

On the Dutch site of Marketplace (Marktplaats), part of Ebay, someone offers the Lesney 69A Commer Nestle's van for the mere sum of 250 euro. See the pictures with the ad.
http://www.marktplaats.nl/a/hobby-en-vr ... ousPage=lr

Seller states this is a factory blooper and that the yellow/black color is original inside out and that it is nowhere to be found in any book, so really something special.................
This is very hard to believe, considering the wheels and axles look as brand new, whereas the paint on the body is damaged all over.
This must be a freaking fake.

Fake/repaint. (Just look at the angle of the wheels on those axles: either the holes in the wheels are too large or the axles are too thin. Either way, it is not how the model was originally assembled.)

...and the level of paint chipping is not consistant with the good condition of the wheels.

Some more observations:

This model was produced from 1959-1965, he got it in 1975 as a birthday present.
He says it has never been documented. How does he know? Is he the only one who knows about it? He can't prove anything and that makes this ad very suspicious.
The crimping of the axles is rough (square-ish) and not the way we normally see.

If a model is as old as this one, at least we should see some lesser clean axles, maybe some rust or change in color of the metal.

and the axle is a nail with a nice flat spot on the dome end so your hammer is less likely to slip.

Before I forget, the ad was removed yesterday.
First seller changed the text of the ad saying he got a lot of mails of people telling him it was a fake, but nonetheless maintained and stressed his claim that is was 100% original.
Shortly after that the ad disappeared. I guess Marktplaats (site) intervened.
