Large Coronation Coach painted or plated.

Is it genuine or is it fake?

Large Coronation Coach painted or plated.

Post by micullee »

Hello,
I'm a long time member with a new username (and where is my VIP badge?)

Anyway, I saw a large coronation coach sell on ebay for $395.00. It was Queen only, and looked pretty good, the box was good. In the sellers description he said "I believe this is the Gold Plated Version".

Finally, my question. How does one tell whether they have the Gold plated or Gold painted?

Thanks,
Michael

Look on this page

The very last picture is a gold plated coronation coach and the one before it is silver plated, all the rest are gold painted, as you can see the gold plate has a chrome like finish and the gold painted version has a mat gold sheen.

I can now see the difference in the plated and the painted.
Here is the one on ebay http://tinyurl.com/lab5huq
What's your opinion?
Naturally, I ran to my coach and studied it, but it appears to be painted, now that I know what the plated looks like.

different question... do you know how to remove the white rectangle around my signature?

Thanks Nick.

395 seems a bit high for a common coach. The silver is harder to find in good condition, mainly due to the fact it was plated with silver nitrate which tends to go black over time.

Hi Micullee.
The Coach on ebay is painted, and expensive at 220 but it did sell.

Nick,

Thanks for the help with the signature.

Dave,
WOW!
A beautiful collection of styles. In your photo it is very easy to see the difference between painted, plated .
Thanks.

Unrelated observation - I like the new forum. But, I'm also glad I can still get to the "old" info.

Best to all,
Michael E.
