Re: Delivering Matchbox modells
Matchbox had a large fleet of double decker buses to collect and return workers as there were few houses in the vicinity. They even had their own breakdown truck created from a bus. Ironic today that houses have been built over the Lesney site.Malibu wrote:Hi,
I was just wondering how Lesney delivered there models.
Did they have own lorrys, vans and trucks or was this done by fright companys or what ever?
I´m sure some off you will know an answer.

I am not sure about trucks in the early years but at least until 1960 the factors, Moko, were responsible for distribution. By the early 1970s there were white rigid body trucks with the Matchbox logo. I know because I once had a delivery from Lesney and the truck pulled up on my drive.
I am sure there would have been articulated trucks as well but only for UK delivery.
Models intended for export were packed in containers but these would probably have carried advertisements for the shipping line rather than for the contents.
