...in particular the lack of a designated catalogue number and the incomplete Year the model is expected to be introduced.

Note on the base there is just the letter 'Y-' so at the point of this examples manufacture, there was not a designated catalogue number and the incomplete date is only shown as '197 ' with the choice of 75, 76, 77 or 78. The full production model was in fact introduced during late 1977 and it is this sort of detail on genuine 'Prototypes' and 'Pre-production' models that is hard to fake, not impossible just hard, because its fiddly trying to remove with a small sharp chisel the numbers and letters from the surface and then touch-up the paint.

Thank's Bob for showing this example here for forum members to see a genuine 'Yesteryear' 'Pre-Pro'.

I would also add that it would be very hard to replicate the thin coat of paint as seen on the centre channel on the base of this model if someone was intent on removing base lettering and numbering and doing a "touch up".

I did get some Bob. Now I know it was Graham from Rockertron who outbid me on a few. Holger got the good lot as well but there were a few job lots I bid on and missed. Bloody Oz $ to the quid is crap at 2 to 1. What happened to the 2 blue Rileys - I looked down and next minute they went for 40 quid only - when I checked the site after it said they were unavailable not sold ???
I also got the Y18 in white but that was basically just for swap as I have one already but at 160 was good value.

I missed the Rileys as well. 2163 & 2164 both went to Graham. 2160 went to Holger along with the pink/yellow Lagonda. 2140,2144,2148,2158 came to me. I think Graham got some others, but he was a few rows behind me and I couldn't keep an eye on him. Schoolboy error on my part sitting too near the front!

The SS100 Jaguar and the Rolls-Royce 'Fire Engine' were developed together, a picture published in March 1977 shows both models but no catalogue numbers had been assigned to either of them. The Rolls-Royce was as 'Code 3' in the 2002 White Book, the Jaguar according to my earliest notes was Ivory, but I can not say here now, if it has side-lights on the front wings.

I would put the Red Jaguar into a late 1976 period of development, if the tyres are all genuine, not later replacements, good clear pictures of all the tyres may help to tie it down further.

Maybe this would account for the red Jag then, painted with fire engine paint! Can you post the picture Kev?
