Greetings from the Albuquerque Gathering!

Post by matchbox_n_molars »

Greetings from the 13th Annual Albuquerque Matchbox Collectors International Gathering of Friends!
The first official day of events has come to a close.
The event is held at the Marriott Hotel on Louisianna Blvd:

Johnny Jimenez, the Toy Shack expert often seen on the "Pawn Stars" TV show, is just two doors up from our room. During the day many of the attendees have the doors to their rooms thrown open with signs posted on their room waste basket notifying visitors that they are open for in-room sales and trading of Matchbox treasures.

Here are some of the assorted treasures Johnny has available:

Earlier this evening the event was officially launched at the "Meet and Greet". There were two cakes available, one a general "MATCHBOX" themed cake, the other a celebration of Mattel's Michael Heralda, and his retirement after 35 years of design work.

Michael and his wife are in attendance.

The current and some of the past Matchbox Ambassadors are also in attendance. From left to right:
Terry Ozima, the current Ambassador Larry Scadudo, Mattel's Michael Heralda, Jim Gallegos (our host) and Chuck Wiersma.

Tomorrow is another day and I'll try to get back again with more updates. I can tell you that Jim has arranged for tomorrow evening's events to be streamed live as they occur! Join us if you can!

Sorry about my lack of details. They've been streaming the lectures/classes so far this morning with more to come. You may only be able to stream from a mobile device. These instructions straight from Jim Gallegos:

Download the Periscope app on iOS or android and find us @MC_Gathering

Hope this helps!

I've found two regular wheel additions for my collection today. A #21C milk float with 9x20 gray plastic wheels and a 46A Morris Minor in dark green with the early casting missing the "O" ring inside the roof!

Managed to log on and have enjoyed a couple of the lectures, however would have appreciated clearer introductions from the lecturers including their names. The static camera is a little frustrating especially when the audience are asking questions, it would be good to see some fimiliar faces in the crowd. Just my opinion.

I too am disappointed that it required downloading additional software and signing up for something I would not normally have any interest in.

However, such is the way of the world now. There is only so much instant communication I can tolerate. I even have texts blocked on my smart phone. If I see one more picture of someone's meal on facebook, I'll unfriend them.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
