10 plymouth green windows and beacons & 55 green beacons

Post by slicc64 »

Hello All,
first post here and want to show off three recent pickups.
Have been hunting the green beacon plymouth for years and then happened to find 2 plus a green beacon mercury with no base number.
Regards,
Steve (Australia)

Hi slico64, I am wondering why the glazing in the model in picture number 7, is showing those lines which I would normally attribute to stress fracture lines normally associated with Sun Fade, any chance of extra pictures of just that model showing the windscreen from different angles, thank's.

I will dig it out again when home tonight and snap a few more shots.
I think there will be environmental issues involved here because I have bought from this collector before and many of his gems have been ruined by UV light from years on display in the wrong spot.
He also had many others still in their box so they survived ok but the boxes suffered.
He was originally from New Zealand and has a hell of a collection.
I bought a red/red 8 wheel crane
3 bedford tipper maroon GPW
59 singer kelly green and lots more.

Hello Ghosthunter,
Apologies for the extra long delay uploading the next lot of pictures but here they are and the crazing is prevalent.
The back window definitely looks green.

Thank you slicc64, for the extra pictures and it is interesting to see the gradation from Green to Amber (Green rear screen to Amber front screen), and with the roof beacons showing more stress fracture lines. This model appears to have been parked in a position facing the Sun as the rear screen is fine and because the rear screen seems to have missed the Sunfade type damage, we must surely be looking at an unusual model witch when new, seems to have had Green glazing as opposed to the normal issues which do have Amber glazing, definately worth keeping until a better example can be found.

I been sort of following this post (the model concerned is a bit late for me) and was wondering why is the conclusion that it is green fading to amber. Why not amber fading to green, and why not a two-tone window insert produced as the system was being changed over from one colour to the other?

Hugh the reason for fading to amber is as Kev mentioned the stress cracking to the front screen which I would associate with the plastic being "dried out" by the sunlight
