I realised today that my Dinky No 236 Connaught has #26 stickers on it rather than #32. They certainly look original so my question is whether anyone knows of any swapping of numbers when new. e.g If all the #32's were used up on any one day and there were some #26's handy, could these have been factory applied? Does anyone have any other examples of this?
Thanks
Stephen

Re: Racing car and Competiton version numbers
Sounds interesting Stephen, I am not aware of any other number being applied to this model, even modern day reproduction decals do not allow a number '26' to be used, I think it needs looking at 'In Hand' for a closer inspection, preferably alongside another model with the number '32' decal.

Re: Racing car and Competiton version numbers
Number 26 was used on the Sunbeam Alpine, so there is a possibility that a mistake or substitution was made in the factory.
A more likely possibility is that a previous owner changed the numbers using original Dinky transfers, which were sold in thrupenny packs containing 3 sets of numbers.
These were mentioned on the back cover of the September 1957 issue of Meccano Magazine under the description of the new Jaguar D-Type. This almost seems an admission that some penny pinching has been going on, resulting in the surprising omission of racing numbers on the Jaguar. I wonder how popular these packs of racing transfers were. They don't seem to be very common nowadays.

Reduce slightly, the size of the picture you have used for your image hosting site and load it onto the forum directly by clicking the 'Upload attachment' tab under the area you use to type your post comments.

It might have to be filed under "unexplained". There's probably a very simple explanation that's been lost in time.
Thanks

Meccano did not do a mistake by not applying racing numbers to the type D Jaguar. This model is finished in a typical Jaguar green which was applied to all models. The final colour has to be applied by the buyer at his wish and his country.
