That base has been off (hence the lack of paint and the split at the front) and the body has been repainted.

I was thinking the body wasn't Lesney at all, maybe it's just the thickness of the paint on the front end.

Just the thickness of the paint - another strong indication of a repaint. A shame, such a nice model no matter what the original colour scheme was.
