Spot On Road Direction Signs

Post by Fred7A »

Well my collection may lack direction, but I am happy that I now have the full set of six Spot On direction signs. Three of these are diecast metal with round plastic bases, while the others are the later plastic variety with square bases, although the bases are interchangeable. I prefer the plastic signs, as they avoid the problems with paint chipping. However, the transfers don’t adhere as well to the plastic so they need to be treated with extra care. For those who are interested in small details (and who isn’t?), the post on the A4 Bristol sign is noticeably thinner than the others. I am guessing that this is an early issue and Triang then decided to beef up the casting a little to better withstand the rigours of playtime.

Now my Spot On drivers have no excuse for getting lost!

Great stuff Fred, I love all this side-line collecting, it adds so much more fun to our hobby. I don't have anything like those road signs, but I am in to railway accessories and collect those 'MERIT', DAPOL' and early 'AIRFIX' station and platform kits, they all have their own historical background and hold so many fond memories for me, might get some pictures sorted out and find somewhere to post them...

So does that A442 sign still have a yellow background? :D

I really like peripheral items like this, and I think it would be great to see a thread with pictures of these, including those railway accessories and Lego road signs.

It's great that Triang used destinations from a variety of locations. However, it's surprising there isn't a sign for Northern Ireland!
