Spare parts for Matchbox/Dinky Collectibles?

Post by 58oldsfan »

Would anyone know of a vendor of parts for the Matchbox/Dinky Collectibles series? I am in need of a hood ornament for my 1938 Studebaker Express! :D I have looked at the usual parts suppliers but saw nothing there. I seem to recall there was a vendor somewhere, but I have no idea where I saw it - if at all! Thanks, Tim

It might be worth having a look here...http://www.diecastrestoration.co.uk/php ... dpbs...and welcome to the forum.

Can you show us a picture of the model in question.

Kevin, You can see the model here. I am not sure which part is needed as this is a full metal cast body:

One of the somewhat rarer models of the Collectibles area.
Only made in 2 different colors. This yellow one and a rarer (and nicer) one in red and black for Texaco as shown here:

Thanks for that link. I will check that out further when I have time. Here is a pic - I need the hood ornament for my model like this.

The Red/Black Texaco model seems to be plentiful in the U.S. I had a much more difficult time locating the yellow one - hence the missing hood ornament! :D

Thank you Marcel for the link and thank's Tim for the picture.

What a shame the hood ornament (we would say bonnet Mascot in the British Isles), has gone missing, does it not fit very well from underneath the hood and if you do mange to get a replacement, can you make it a bit more secure!

Good luck with your search, but I don't think I have seen too many of those models going cheaply at UK toy fairs, but having now said that, I'll see a box load at the next one...

The hood ornament almost looks like one of the door handles. Maybe you can use a similar door handle from some beater model?

Thanks Kevin for explaining the bonnet Mascot. I now know what is meant.
I think it is quite difficult to find this.
Some plastic componets on Collectible models (like door handles) do not have a very strong fit.
The opening in the metal casting is to wide.

I'm pretty sure no one is making parts for this series and in general, models of such recent manufacture.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

Tinman, I'm sure you are correct. Best I can hope for is that someone has a beater that isn't also missing the hood ornament!
