Lone Star Rolls Royce

It is nice to be back. Took a while. I guess I forgot .
Been very busy of late that will go on for several weeks to come.

But when the occassion arises I'll post some more pics.

Found these two at yesterday's swapmeet. One (black wheels) MIB and one (white wheels) with minor playwar, but in need of some restoring of front and rear bumpers.
These bumpers will be made from Budgie/Seerol parts.

For anyone collecting the 'LONE-STAR' models and in particular the Rolls-Royce above, the White tyre versions come before the Black tyre versions and were in production during 1965, across into 1966 in the distinctive Red and Yellow 'Window Box' as shown by "Ecclesley" above and both models in the picture are Silver Cloud III standard 4 door saloon.

Because the model started out as a Silver Cloud II in 1962, converted into Silver Cloud III in 1964, there are several versions of the model and so far I have recorded 7 versions across 4 box designs.

Is this an original colour?


This much darker blue.

And I saw a blue one with chrome wheels, the picture not available now.

Can you elaborate on that.

Hello Gerrit, thank's for the extra pictures of more Lone-Star Rolls-Royce models, I never get tired of looking at them!

The model you question in dark Grey over Silver with White tyres looks nice and should have been released, but I don't think it is original, because it is on a late version model (it could be a Colour-Trial, but nobody has ever heard of those from Lone-Star, not the sort of thing they did), and because the Cream seats say this version is the model released directly after the medium Blue with White tyres and Yellow seats in your very first picture, is the last model released before the body became a darker Blue (the tatty model in your last picture), so I think it is a repaint and there seems to be something added to the interior of the car on the front seat, suggesting the model has been apart for the repainting to take place.

So now the dark Blue version has also been authenticated as genuine and the last versions in dark Blue (these are metallic blue by the way, for those who don't have this model), had Black tyres.

As for 'Chrome' wheels on a later model, I am doubtful and a picture would be nice before it can be fully discussed.

Like you I cannot get enough of these Lone Star Clouds. It is such a cute model and it catches my eye in a very pleasant way.
I want to have some more, at least one mint of every version.
At this moment my number of LS stands at 10, original, restored/code 3 and a few in need of restoration:

Here is my collection of 1/50th scale 'LONE-STAR' Rolls-Royce models.

The first Four models are Silver Cloud II, the rest are Silver Cloud III.
The first Three are Black over light Grey.
The next Two are Black over Dark Grey.
The first Two All Blue models are light mett Blue.
The last Three All Blue models are dark mett Blue.
The first Five models have Black soft rubber tyres.
The next Two All Blue models have hard White Nylon tyres.
The last Three All Blue models have hard Black Nylon tyres.
The first Five models do not have interior seat components.
The first All Blue model has Yellow seats.
The rest of the All Blue models have Tan seats.
The first Five models have 'Chrome' effect plated grille and bumper components.
The first Three All Blue models have bright Silver painted grille and bumper components.
The Fourth All Blue model has bright Silver front component, but plain unpainted Grey plastic rear bumper.
The last All Blue model has both front and rear bumper and grille components in unpainted Grey plastic.
The last Three All Blue models have had the glazing re-tooled to make it a thicker moulding.

Additional to this, baseplate colours are various shades of Grey and dark Oak.

You can see my Second All Blue model has lost it's headlamps and a previous owner has painted the area with Silver paint, don't know why, Silver paint won't cover up the holes!

Two other packaging styles are known. There is an all-clear plastic box with a card plynth identical to the one used by 'NOREV' in the late 1960's (I could have shown it here, but I've put all the models away now!!), and there is the blister card shown below.

This one is not in my collection but I know it has the light mett Blue body with White tyres.

And do you agree, looking at the round-ish rear quarter light, that this Silver Cloud model is more in line with ter James Young coachbuilt variant, contrary to the square rear quarter lights of the standard steel bodies.

This J.Y. car, in a derelict state, originally owned by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics
