US cars, especially new ones, were rare on UK roads in the 1970s, but double decker buses with entrances on the same side as the driver sat were non existant and would never have passed Metropolitan Police certification for use in Greater London as buses. Doorways were cut into some export candidates by PVS at Silver End and then driven on trade plates to the docks for export to USA & Canadamatchboxmarcel wrote:many thanks, allthough I would have quessed it wwas possible to see a USA car on British roads !SMS88 wrote:This photo was taken in USA long after the bus had been exported - the contractor PVS who provided the blue buses initially as long term hire not actually owned by Lesney replaced the original collection of these lowbridge Bristol buses with the AEC RT type seen in both group shots. English buses in England dont require this offside door which has been cut into this wreck but in USA where they drive on the other side of the road and dont like passengers board in the middle of the road then they cut these extra doorways!GHOSTHUNTER wrote:I can post this one here for now, will have to look for the other Lesney buses.

Thank you. Do you know why a new user of the bus in the USA would not change the Matchbox livery on this bus.?
