A few Spot On's

Post by starni999 »

Hi all,
Here are a few of the truly wonderful Spot On models, I can remember when no one wanted these, and you could still buy old shop stock off the shelf for 10 bob (50p) each! Why didn't I just buy them all?
I sold all mine in 1982, Sadly these cost a bit more to get again........

Lovely motors -factory burned & closed in 1967 if I remember correctly ! I remember a big deprtment store display of them which had to be 1970 or later -a double set with Zephyr 6 + Hillman Minx was the most desirable but my grandmother bought me a new Corgi Whizzwheels Capri in red which was even more desirable (and cheaper) to my young eyes.....
The last time I saw brand new Spot On was spring 1972 - a group of 3 or 4 mushroom coloured Austin 1800s in the local newsagents for 49½p each - I got one and still have it altho the box is long gone!

Yeah, I remember them in the shops till about 71 - 72, Dinky collectors were pretty snooty about them at the time, showing a Spot On to a hardcore Dinky collector then got about the same reaction as turning up at the DTCA AGM with a Corgi Classic from 1992 would now!
I remember them in paper shops etc, sometimes there were dozens, so I guess they didn't sell very well anyway. Oh for a time machine!

They are all beauties Chris, but the articulated Bedford and Thames are my favorites!

That's a beautiful selection of models! Thanks for showing them.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
