This exhbition runned from april1 17th till last saturday may 16th,

A few weeks ago, the appointment was made between me and 3 collectorfriends to visit this exhibtion and to visit another exhbition ofmodelcars earlier that day in the Dutch village of Hardinxveld-Giesendam.
Report and photos of the modelcars exhbition can be found in this tread:

The ADO toys might need a brief introduction for a few of you.

The history of ADO begins in 1922 in the wooded surroundings of Apeldoorn. In the Sanatorium "Berg en Bosch" TB patients were then treated, who in turn should develop work routine after their prolonged isolation. They choose Occupational Therapy: manufacturing simple products which are satisfactory and can be made by unskilled. The most sought after toys from ADO now were the wooden toys Ko Verzuu (1901-1971) designed. The toys at the time were soon for sale at the famous Metz & Co store in Amsterdam and at the "De Bijenkorf" store in Amsterdam. The toys also sold in the better toy stores. The sanatorium moved in 1933/1934 to the Dutch village of Berg en Bosch near Bilthoven where production of ADO toys with forty to sixty men continued. The enthusiasm for the toy was great, but when Verzuu was forced by the new management for commercial reasons to develop toys in natural wood he resigned. The Foundation Sheltered Zeist in the 60s released a few replicas of popular models.

Because both exhibitions were opened only after 11:00 we first drove to Kinderdijk to visit some Dutch Heritage; the famous 17 windmills of Kinderdijk. After a walk and coffee we drove to Hardinxveld-Giessendam to visit the modelcar exhbition in The "Koperen Knop museum and later that day we went to the ADO exhbition in De Bilt.

It was a very successful day. When you were unable to visit this you have missed something, because both exhibits closed last saturday may 16th.

Some of the photos I took at the ADO exhbition.
