Are the best finds often the best and cheapest bargains
Are the best finds often the best and cheapest bargains
Not been collecting die cast that long in fact about the first 50 I bought I gave as presents to my brother as he had already started collecting mainly buses and formula 1 cars I even gave him an orange bubble car in very nice cond that I found for 50p and later found was worth a good few quid.A fair % of my collection come from car boots and usually come very cheaply due to sellers not knowing what they are selling thinking they are pretty worthless kids toys .Got a minichamps formula 1 for my brother and paid a £1 I have seen the similar on eBay for £100 .I have also purchased some fantastic models from eBay at very low prices ,I am up all night so anything finishing 3/4 am has little audience to purchase so that way I have had some good finds .i would have to dig them all out to list all the super bargains most have a post it note attached with the price I paid, got a set of battle kings from eBay 3 tanks and a transporter less than £10 inc postage and they arrived in fantastic condition .I also gotta rare Automec copy of a dinky 621 army truck from a car boot for £5 and that's pretty mint.

Speaking of bargains there's a fellow on ebay that has those Kemlow Sentry Box army trucks for $8 US which is pretty darn close to 5 quids. They must have old store stock cases as they have sold a ton and they are pretty mint in boxes. Just search ebay Kemlows Sentry Box. They do ship to UK too.

Yes I agree - the best finds come from sellers who dont know exactly what they are selling - ignorance is a blessing in a world where profit accrues to those with enterprise skills and superior knowledge -especially essential in antiques and collectables fields

I have often thought of ordering the Kemlows sentry box items from USA but I have visions of postman arriving and demanding a large sum in import duties/vat etc .i got caught out once having to pay about £40/50
Re: Are the best finds often the best and cheapest bargains
Plenty out there picked up a few Lesley items today at 50p each and 2 corgi trams and a corgi The rover boxed van for £10
Re: Are the best finds often the best and cheapest bargains
I consider finding any much sought after model a best find. Only a handful of them where what I would consider cheap.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
Re: Are the best finds often the best and cheapest bargains
Each collector is different with different financial restraints . Some will go all out to find and pay for exclusive expensive models others are happy to get variety and don't see perfection as being of great importance.
Re: Are the best finds often the best and cheapest bargains
Well i took the risk and ordered the kemlows off ebay - armoured car and 3 ton truck mint in boxes cost a total of $16.99inc postage - They arrived after about 5 days and no surprises from postman .Unsure as to authenticity - Made in england stamp looks rather amateur - tailgate on truck is a different colour green than rest of truck - axles look very shiny and not crimped ends like i have seen before more a rough mushroom head.Boxes look ok but printing is im sure pretty basic anyway on genuine so could easily be copied.

Hi Birdy.
Your Kemlows models sound fine to me, The axles are rounded over but not by a machine, see
