General question: Labels

Post by Sir_Matchbox_96 »

Hi all,
I was asking myself which was the first RW which had labels?! And at what time?

Thanks,

The 5a double decker bus in 1954. Lesney didn't start using decals on the bus until the "b" issue was released. In the late part of the 1960's, Lesney would return to labels after Jack Odell built machines to apply labels on the models. Decals were hand applied and the application of labels by a machine was much faster. Although, a handful of decals remained in use into the 1970's on specific models.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

Thanks Tinman for the quick answer! I always wondered why Lesney was using decals and labels both, at different times. But that makes sense!

Again many thanks!

It seems they started with paper labels but rather quickly made the transition to decals and then in the mid-60's or so made the transition back to labels.
