I cant beleive you arent considering this very likely theory Hugh
My TR7 appears to have drummed up some interest ,I have had problems getting on this splendid forum sadly my very expensive laptop decided to expire ,less tan 2 yrs old and the HDD has developed a self destruction fault I now write from an iPad .In case any of you are computer buffs my laptop is a Lenovo G780 I7 that cost approx £750 2 yrs ago it has a sea gate HDD and techs have tried replacing it with a compatible Samsung trying to clone all info but laptop keeps crashing .recovery discs have been ordered £30 from Lenovo to re install win 8 and get laptop up and running. Cost of repair with discs is looking about £140 at present ,do I have a legitimate claim via Lenovo because of item not being fit for purpose.I have shown TR7 to a couple of specialist die cast retailers thus far and they claim not to have seen its like and are interested to know of any info that can be gleaned - is there anywhere it can be sent/taken to possibly strip and get further info and maybe decide wether interior was coloured at launch or indeed painted at some stage after .

I would advise you to look at the pre-pro sections of the Great book of Corgi or Bill Mankze´s Juniors book and you will see that hand painted details that match the 1:1 are completely normal and common on real pre-pros which were not always destroyed once models were approved - this one if genuine would have been sent to the BL manager who ordered the project circa 1978, and after our discussion here that would be somebody who lived in the Midlands most likely near the Canley factory that took over the TR7 production. The fact that somebody went to the trouble of drilling out rivits to put in those gold plated screws + washers of standard Corgi R & D spec should be enough reason for you to see it for what it is. It would be VERY RISKY to tamper with those screws - any messing opening up the model destroying patina will make it look like it could be a new fake. If you want to know its value send it to VECTIS for auction as a pre-pro sample - they will accept it because as I have said, it is consistent with Corgi practices

great to see idris admit his secret technique for making gold painted fakes in an unguarded moment - I wonder if all fakers have these useful beards?

I can't take the credit for this, Mick. After all, you were the one who gave the game away in the 58a gold trim thread.
Birdy, please don't be tempted to take the model to pieces because as "SMS88" has said, you could damage the natural 'Patina' by the accidental slippage of the screwdriver causing damage to the screw head surface and/or the baseplate plastic and this would instantly give the impression the model is a modern fake, so leave it intact.
Certainly send some pictures and info (based on what we have compiled here for you), to Vectis, but I would also be inclined to try and get in touch with Harris Mann and his boss, Roy Haynes, both of whom were key men working on the real car (Harris being the designer), and both still involved in Automotive engineering, Mann should be contactable through Coventry University.
I am struggling as I said prev my laptop is in dock and I am trying to manage for now with an iPad ,it's extremely difficult as this also seems to shut off at will, tried finding some contact route for 'mr Harris Mann the TR7 designer .Many years have passed so it's unlikely he will even remember a corgi junior let alone shed any light but who knows I will try and get to converse with him .
Regards a laptop crashing, yes they do, suffered this myself very recently and have a new HDD fitted, but all my data is still on the Drive waiting fir recovery. It should not matter which make of Hard drive is fitted, modern laptops will be 'SATA' type and the established manufactures make 'SATA' Drives. Recovery discs you mention are for recovering what?
A relatively new crashed laptop is usually caused by corrupt software, not the Hard drive and the most likely cause for corrupt software is the piece of code responsible for running the 'OS' (Operating System'), if this becomes corrupt, the 'OS' can not work and 'Windows' can not see your data on the Hard drive, a recovery disc can re-install the 'OS', but there may still be some bad code sitting in the program files which can be missed by the new 'OS' install until it has to talk to that code and then your problem is still there and the crash process will be defined as 'The Blue screen of Death' which when you first witness this can strike fear in all of us, but it is not as serious as it is made out to be, but the cause of it will need to be addressed.

Without any provenance whatsoever? More important is whether any Corgi collector (apart from SMS88) would be prepared to accept it in the complete absence of any history. So what do the Forum's other Corgi collectors think of this model? Is it a genuine pre-pro, something painted by a hobbyist, or is the jury still out?
I want to mention here the previously mentioned notion of Corgi verses Dinky in launching a TR7 model. Upto the point of the Corgi Juniors version being introduced, they had very few previous Triumph models in their ranges, Dinky however had several and its possible their License was still valid allowing them to make a regular size model leaving Corgi only able to make a smaller version, so one was added to the 'JUNIORS' range.
