back story...little family owned hair place...my mom goes every week weather permitting...husband mother and now daughter work the place...the daughter brings her son as its cheaper than a day care i guess...there is enough room for him to play with his diecast cars
so i take my mom there and leave to run a couple errands as i know she is safe there while im gone...i get back and she isnt finished so i pull up a chair and wait...and what do i see...the little guy whose mom works there has his cars out...neatly in rows...at this time he wasnt playing with them as his little tablet had his attention
so im sitting there and i look over the cars a bit...they were your typical hot wheels and a couple other brands...but one was there that stuck out...it was the #16 snowplough...i couldnt believe it...was it the grandfathers? he is a few years older than me but it couldve been his as a kid...i didnt ask him...he was busy...it was play worn...but the decal on the blade was in tact...i almost told the little guy what he had but im sure he didnt care...it was a toy and he was using it as its intended purpose...if someone told me that toy X i had would be worth money when i was 50 i wouldnt have care...it was a toy in my hands as a kid and it would be played with as i saw fit
anyway i thought it was cool to see this little toy still out there in the play zone by a kid who saw it to be a fun thing instead of a toy for the shelf!

That is a cool story and just shows that you never know where our collectibles will turn up and yes, its nice to know it is still fulfilling it's original intention as a toy!

Dan,
What a great story and it is always fun to see the younger kids playing with diecast toys!! I can still remember playing with our Matchbox toys outside including using the #16 snow plow to "plow" through the dirt or sometimes-- snow. The emergency vehicles (Police, Fire, Ambulance, etc.) were always close by.
A little sad that much of this type of playtime from those earlier days has been replaced with all the electronic devices and cell phones -- oh well, time marches on.....................

Had a little three-year old here at the dental office this morning. The whole time I was doing his exam he had a tablet/pad of some sort in his lap playing some sort of game. Later I saw him and his Mom out in the hall where I have my toys displayed and his level of enthusiasm had turned up several notches from that tablet game.
I asked him if he like the cars or the trucks or race cars or tractors. His Mom replied that he was particularly fond of farm and construction vehicles. I took him down to where my old King Size and Major Pack stuff is displayed. We lifted him up where he got a good look at all those combines, tractors and construction trucks. His eyes were as big as dinner plates! It was fun!

By the sounds of it you have converted someone and I bet it was not long before he started asking questions about wanting some for himself, great story, I look forward to welcoming him here on the forum one Day...

thanks guys...it was odd seeing it as most kids never get to play with grand parents toys as they are long gone

Thanks for sharing that event. Nice to know they are still out there "working hard" making some kids life more enjoyable.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

I have a situation where my 2 grandchildren live with me plus other members of my family both grandchildren
have had from me quite a number of my replaced models and have played with them and still do on daily
basis they also come and look at my collection asking questions so when my time comes i hope that they
may well find a good home and be added to. So i think that our hobby will survive.
