54B Cadillac Ambulance

Post by Satiainen »

Hi,
I got this fancy Cadillac some time ago. Those extra decals look quite good but not factory-made I assume. :)
Rear lights are also trimmed afterwards and roof lights turned blue. Otherwise the white paint, baseplate and front trim look very good and I can't see any marks of repainting. Wheels are like brand new too.
Why I'm posting this here is to ask advice for restoring this specimen. How should I remove those extra paints and decals without damaging this otherwise almost mint model?
It looks good even now in my shelf but it would look better as original.

Thanks!
Matias

Hi Matías.
A really interesting play of colors with original Matchbox model.
Not for the model display case. But for the drawer for interesting. ;) :D

Good Day Matias,

A product I used to clean paint off plastic wheels was Fairy power spray

PLASTIC
I applied liquid with fine paintbrush - left 60 seconds then used small bristle brush to remove most of old paint.
Sometimes had to leave liquid for longer on stubborn paint areas.
Harder to reach places I reapplied liquid then used craft blade & needle to remove.

METAL & DECALS
To remove decals I have used GOO GONE & MICRO SET - usually softened decal to allow wiping off
Just wondering if a soak in hot water would work

I would you suggest you trial on some painted scrap models to test first. A lot would depend upon what kind of paint was used on your ambulance.

Thanks Mike and Rodger for your replys and tips!
Decals were removed easily, yellow paint also. The sirens and red taillights are still on progress.
Red paint is in quite challenging place. :)
