As for #35, the Merryweather, are we saying it was not released until some time in 1970, do we know why the delay when it actually existed during 1969 in 'Prototype' form with 'Regular' wheels. What took it's place in the launch line up, the #62 Mercury Cougar or #67 VW ?

Then you have it wrong! The #11 Scaffolding truck was so far down the list of SF releases in last part of 1970 that it only came in a G box.
The 11th + 12th SF releases were the SF35 + SF25 which came out in USA in December 1969 but didnt make UK shops until early 1970. 1st 10 SF were 14,33,62,41,15 followed by 2nd wave 20,5,56,67,69 from our previous discussion based upon box art + observations from 1969

GHOSTHUNTER wrote:I have just looked at Nick's guide for the #35 Merryweather, and he says the same, "released in time for Christmas 1969 as part of the original wave of the first new SuperFast castings". Technically not a new casting for the 'Superfast' range, because it was born as a 'Regular' wheel model.

I thought I had better check his entry for the #11 Mercedes Scaffold Truck and he says it was converted in 1970, so again if it was not converted in 1969, what was the delay and what took it's place during the mid-69 launch, the Mercury or VW ?

GHOSTHUNTER.
I wrote those words. Merryweather was US but not UK release in December 1969
As I said before, you have confused the brand new RW late #11 Scaffolding truck release with the SF program for unknown reasons
No trucks except Fire vehicles were converted to SF until ALL cars had been done which took 1st half of 1970 to complete

So the Merryweather was a 1969 issue, does not matter which part of the World it was, if it did not come to market until 1970 in the UK, how can we take that as the date for the rest of the World when it is sneaking into the US in late 1969, early, mid or late 1969 is still 1969!

This does not change my original posting of 5 models released as new 'Superfast' versions in late 1969. I want to get the facts right for the correct 5 models converted into 'Superfast' versions in mid-69. If not the Mercedes Scaffold Truck (done during 1970), then one of the Two cars mentioned earlier, Mercury or VW.

Having now also checked the 'Forty Years' book, that has the same 5 models as in my listing as being converted in 1969 into 'Superfast' versions.

We will have to investigate further, as clearly someones info needs tweaking.

I am all for re-writing History if we can prove what really happened with the 'Superfast' models launch.

WOW Vetrad! what a display and thank you very much for the wheel numbers, especially the 'Pre-Pro' wheels. This is a good contribution and probably the best way to carry on with the same pictures taken this way if possible for other members.

Here is concrete proof of the 1st 8 SF models released in 1969. These all appear in tracksets and giftsets made for christmas 1969. White SF8 Mustangs + SF41 Ford GT were also very early trackset cars with F box designs evolved very closely related to the 1st 8. Its a shame we havent got access to the old forum original thread with contributions from guys like Nigel who wrote the 40 years book chapter - I would like to read it again!

Off white VW 1500 (with 137 labels) and lemon Miura (without tow slot) this time. Wheel mould numbers aren't that low. 1970 prod ?
Volkswagen : E4 - F28 - E41 - E62. Miura : 43D - 2D - 5D - C35.

Yes - there is no telling how long painted bodies could be stored by Lesney when surplus from a completed production run.

Mick, I can still get into 'BeFora' with no problem, so give me something I need to be looking for, if you can remember where it is likely to be.
