Matchbox Garage Presentation Gift Set c.1960

Post by cdjwatts »

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to find out some information on this gift set. I believe it was released in 1960 but it doesn't seem to appear in any of the Matchbox catalogues. It came in a 'C' type box with a garage and quite a few models all in 'C' boxes inside. I'm trying to find out what models it originally came with and what other items if any should be included. Does anyone else have one of these? It seems to be a bit of a mystery. Thanks very much for your help!

Would it be this?

I'm not sure but I think it may be too early for C type boxes.

Hello Watts, welcome to the forum and thanks for an interesting question. We really need to see a picture(s) of the set you describe, but if it is a set not recerded in the normal reference media, it may well be a set instigated by a retail store with Lesney permission. Sears Roebuck are known for doing this type of marketing with their stock, even having toys made for them exclusively.

So try and post a picture, but please do not get too close or it will be out of focus, thanks.

Hi CD and welcome to our forum.
The giftset 'C' was a 1960 Lesney UK made giftset, It is very rare and usually fetches very high prices simply because it is so scarce.
I can't tell you much more but you can see what kind of price these sell for, see here -

I love this gift set. Don't have one but I love it nonetheless!
Here is a photo of a customized 42 Bedford News Van in the colors seen on this gift set box. A friend did this one for me a few years back. Good looking color combo in my opinion. :)

Yes, very striking in red. Whoever customised that model, did a great job :)
