Not true. As the Wiki article clearly states "he Marina......used a floor plan and running gear deliberately similar to the Minor to streamline production changeover and minimize the financial outlay associated with chassis development and retooling".GHOSTHUNTER wrote:...and the first Morris Marinas were basically re-bodied Minors.

Not true. The only common parts between Minor and Marina are the front lever arm shocks. The Marina is a significantly bigger faster car that is not curvyGHOSTHUNTER wrote:...and the Morris Minor lives on in Sri Lanka where they build replacement body panels by hand, virtually on the side of the road!

Arrrrgggg! the're ganging up on me...
OK Guys, I stand corrected and while 'Wiki' sites can be useful, never treat them as Gospel. "A floorpan and running gear similar too" is certainly not "the same as" so the Marina owner I know locally is under the same impression as I was and he should have known, as he does the mechanical work on his car himself. I won't tell him that we were both wrong in this, no point falling out with him over something like this, I'll just wait until the subject crops-up in conversation again and mention it then, thank's Guys.

Re: My Matchbox and my trip to Sri Lanka
What i can say on the subject is that my mum had a Marina and it had no second or third gear, so she would need to accelerate to approx 20 in first and then slam it into fourth gear (if possible whilst going down hill) she used it to get me and my sister to school, we were always late!!!. She hated that car and then one morning we all got up and got ready for school then Mum opened the front door to find the Marina had been stolen overnight NEVER to be seen again!!!!
HOORAY!!!!!!
Sadly we walked to school after that!!!! 3 miles there and 3 miles back!!!! for over 3 years

It is true to say both Marina + Minor floorpans were made of steel!GHOSTHUNTER wrote:Arrrrgggg! the're ganging up on me...

Minors used early versions of the A series engine upto 1098cc and circa 50% of Marinas were built with the later 1275cc development of the A series -the rest had B series or O series engines. But the only interchangeable parts were the front lever arm shocks!
