Bought a new car

Test drove this first. An older Aston Martin DB7 at a local Chevy dealer just 5 miles from my house. Just asking $29,000 US, which is cheap. Car had lots of issues. Needed a new top, brakes squeaked and pulled to the left. Check engine light on. Did not fit great either. But I had never had a chance to drive one before.







Ended up with this. Brand new Mustang GT California Special with all the options on it. Probably not a surprise to those that know me.

Hello matchboxtom, nice wheels. I do like the recent generation Mustangs but for me I am afraid, the Aston would have done it for me, even with those 'Issues' of which were minor such as inferior fuel causing engine check lights to trigger and brakes pulling to one side (I bet it was to the same side of the car the driver sits!) and could have been sorted and the Aston was in the right colour, a shade of British Racing Green maybe, now what more could you have wanted...

Yes indeed Tom, not a surprise in the least! Great looking ride! So did a previous Mustang go away with this one being added or are we starting a fleet?
The DB7 is handsome but I imagine the maintenance expenses for a car like that would be frightening.

The Aston is awsome but, just the top would run into the thousands, and while the engine light may not be a big deal, if it was an easy fix, the dealership would have done it before putting the car out onto the lot.
Wife and I bought a Mustang convert. for my Mother-in-Law in 2005. She is still driving it but it needs a new top badly and while I can buy the fabric kit to install it myself, the kit is high dollar and it is suppossed to be a bear to install. Since the back glass on hers (and possibly yours too I think) is made into the top it is a very expensive item.

A difficult decision indeed, I would probably opted for the Aston but that's me, I don't doubt I would have regretted it later on.
But summer is on it's way, and by coincidence I had the top down on the BMW today for the first time this year. Such fun.

I love both cars Tom, but as both a James Bond and also a British Lesney fan, (together with my being a mechanic of course), the Aston would have come home with me. The Best quality tops are still sold by J.C. Whitney here in the U.S. for under $500. With patience and a couple of sometimes frustrating days, tops can be installed by even a beginner successfully without any wrinkles left showing. So easy, 'even a Caveman can do it'. They are both top notch cars Tom, but I do see a potential $100,000 collector value on the Aston one day. kwakers

It kind of is a replacement for my 2008 I traded in on an E Class for my wife.

Very possible all the issues were minor. But I got a check engine light last summer in a 2006 E Class and it was bad balance shafts and a $6500 engine rebuild. Needless to say I traded that one in that very day. I know it is usually aminor sensor or even a bad gas cap for a check engine light. But it looked like the front fender didn't fit well. I didn't fit well in the car. And with all the issues in a 5 minute drive around the block I figured even if I find a DB7 this one wasn't it. And with 2 old cars already I decided that I probably wanted a new car for a commuter. But it was a fun drive.

My wife an I even went for a coffee on the drive. Stylin' in the Starbucks drive through....

Congratulations on the new Stang Tom. The Austin looks sexy but something tells me she would be high maintenance!
