VW For chris-a30, kwakers and tinman

Post by yellowfoden »

hello chris-a30, kwakers and tinman,

I have noticed the interest in VW with Chris, Kwakers and Tinman and this stretched VW caught the attention as we crossed the street this evening. Have seen many customs and stretched vehicles in the past but must say this is the first VW.
Pity the light post was in middle of the shot.
Tried to snap a second shot but he took off somewhat quicker than my camera refocus would allow.

Only the VW T1 Kombi, had no rear side windows.
I think a mixture of VW T1 and ......?

Clearly T2 bay window and also T2 rear air intakes. The rear without window is probably not from a bus but from a T2 panel van.

The T1 split front windshield would have had louvered air vents that look much different than these open and streamlined looking air ducts on this type 2 baywindow bus Mike. This has to be the longest stretch bay window with a Camper top I could ever imagine. What a Dream Machine to haul our extended family down to see Tinman in Sunny Florida for Easter. The entry doors on this side look permanently closed, so they must be on the left U.K. curb side on this beauty. Imagine what a party some deadheads could have thrown while on their way to a Grateful Dead concert in the 70s with this one (all peace signed and flowered up for the 'Trip'). What a "Long Strange trip it has been" kwakers

That is a beauty, someone's labour of love I think. There's an assortment on these links:

It's hard to imagine anything quick about that truck, it must be quite heavy and under powered.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

Wow, thanks for the picture. It must take forever to get that thing through an intersection between the lack of power and the length. It does appear to be made from all Bay window parts, they actually did make "panel" vans in bay window form Mike , I had the chance to purchase a 74 panel, but was not quite liquid enough at the time.
Based on the front bumper, and the running lights up high, I would guess this to be a 73-79 model(s?)
