Tubby Can i suggest you seriously consider keeping all the Matchbox models you have and start collecting more!!!

It is a wonderful hobby and you will learn loads from the Forum members including some of the pitfalls that collectors can fall foul of!!
I have a few days off work coming up and apart from the list of repairs that the wife has posted on the wall I will have some time to look at the cars and re-consider. I think the other cars will be dispatched one way or the other but the Matchbox stuff is quite tempting.
If you dont need the cash urgently its a good idea to collect items that you actually like especially if the low prices you may get give you the feeling that you are wasting your time selling when they make a nice display in 1 small cabinet and remind you of how you came by them.........
BTW when i clean cars I use a small modellers paintbrush dipped in warm not hot water to remove dust from cracks and crevices - I dont emerse the whole vehicle unless they have dirt inside because the result can be dried water marks inside the glazing which is unattractive.

I don't really need the cash to be honest, it was just a need to clear some of the gradual build up of 'stuff'. I just don't keep on top of things, 3 sets of golf clubs? 6 bicycles? 3 large boxes of electrical cables?

I've put the Corgi stuff on Ebay so I've made a start with shifting gear. I also went to retrieve my dads old display cabinet, it's a very well built solid wood job with glass shelving - quite a nice piece. So I'm just considering where that can go out of direct sunlight.

OK so I got the display cabinet on the wall, didn't spend too much time organizing things but they look well enough. Maybe put some more in, and remove the boxes. If I start buying more, I'm going to need another cabinet.

Any idea about getting little labels with number, type, year printed on them? I suppose I can make some up but would be quicker to just buy a set.

Hello Tubby.
What a nice mix of models you have put in the cabinet, in fact more than nice, as I see Two Rolls-Royce and Two Bentley models, right up my street...!

I hope you do carry on liking and enjoying Matchbox models, they are such fun and very easy to get hooked on!

Thanks for showing us.

Yes, I agree, the picture size was a bit excessive.

I've already been browsing ebay for some of the 1-75 range, would be nice to add to that part of the collection.

Does anyone have any suggestions for buying a set of information labels or is it something that you tend to print out yourselves?

I was thinking of displaying Model Number/Description/Production Years next to each model.

Nope, employed and a few years from retiring yet. I do have a constant need for 'stuff' to keep my imagination fired though so yes, I can get bored easily unless I can sustain some new input to stimulate me (it must be a known condition). I don't know, it's just when I look at them in the display I would like a small bit of information so that anyone who visits can study them, I know it's something that I would like to see anyway so I assume that's the same for everyone else? Looking at bits of pottery or coins in a museum would be pure torment unless you had some little information cards to inform you, I just see the Matchbox cars needing the same sort of attention really.

Perhaps I'm a little odd, I did buy the wife an ESO print of the Helix Nebula and added a small information card to it. Now I've written that down and read it again, I probably am a little odd. But presumably then, nobody adds these little info cards to their display collections?

The display's looking good, but full already :D I can't recall seeing info cards before maybe others can help. You could check ebay, perhaps they may have something acrylic for retail use? You could always do something cheap and cheerful and get some white card, cut it to a small size, score it and fold it in half. You could then print out some details on labels and stick them on the cards. :?: :D
