5 shades of blue... the Mobile Canteen

Post by Matchboxpat »

Hi all,

I really love the 74a Canteen and have a few Mint pieces... I always wanted to get all five colors of the baseplate and finally received the dark blue one a couple of days ago. Of course the models shown below are not the mint ones, a few of them are in good condition but three of them are missing hatch and/or door... 4 of them are silver, the other one is white.

I have one problem, though. If the sea green one is easy to spot, what is the actual color name for the others ? The dark one is at far left, but which one is the mid blue ? The light blue is at far right, so it makes the other the pale blue ? Or is it the other way around ?

Anyway, pretty happy to have them all, even if a couple are decent beaters...

Enjoy !

I believe according to the pictures at Nick's variation site, you may not have the darkest base blue color yet Pat. You do have 2 very distinct and different mid blue bases shown, but none as dark as the darkest blue one shown in his comparison photo. So much for only 5 colors. With your 2 different mid blue bases, it looks like 6 colors would now be more accurate. Even your pale blue base is quite different than the light green looking base that is pictured there, so I am sure the colors were just generalized into those 5 basic categories to simplify coding similar to Mike Stannard's 5 base colors. I show that I am also missing the darkest blue base, which could either have 9X24 Gray Plastic Wheels as one variation, or the 9X36 GPW with that riveted base just like yours. Perhaps it is just my screen, but you can compare your darkest blue directly. kwakers

Here are the five 74a Base colours, as Dick says you seem to be missing the Dark Blue base.
