Shellmex Gas/Petrol Pumps

Post by dbstudio »

Hello;
I found these pumps in an old box of Lesneys recovered from an attic and cannot find a listing or even a photo of them anywhere.

Does anyone recognize them? I've included a photo of the Lesneys they were found with also, if that helps.

cheers, David

Could be Charbens or Benbros or a few other obscure makers like Wardie

They look very similar to the pumps from the Dinky no. 782 Shell petrol station (and there are four of them). Looking at the photographs in the link, it is unclear to me whether some of the pumps read Shellmex rather than Shell - certainly the word is too long to be simply Shell.

Can't help you with your petrol pumps question, Perhaps a pic with a Matchbox toy would help give us a sense of size & scale.
Your Matchbox toys are all very collectable in the condition that they are in, Very nice.

Thank you, Nick. Actually, I am in the process of trying to determine their value to sell. As I am not a collector, it is a bit overwhelming researching online all the various websites and information available regarding variations and values. I didn't realize their popularity and how complicated it is to get a proper evaluation to set a proper, realistic sale price. My worst fear is to sell one low that may be a rare bird possibly commanding a high value. Do you see any rare birds there? :o)

Any pointers in the best direction on how to evaluate them would be most appreciated. Also, I realize this is not a sale forum, but any reasonable offers would be taken into consideration if made.

Thanks again.

you can sell on here many members do just post in the "market place" with a price or request offers I'm sure a value acceptable to both parties will be achieved

You can find out what these have sold for in the past here
http://www.vintagebritishdiecasts.co.uk ... series.htm
please bear in mind these are the top selling prices from the most popular auction site.
unboxed models would be worth 40-50% of the boxed price.
The gem of the toys you have shown us would probably be the refreshments canteen
