15d Volkswagen hubcaps?

Post by mike »

Hi Nick and RW friends.

I once heard, there is 15d Volkswagen
with green hubcaps.

Is it real or a myth?

Nick's website I see a picture of 15d
green color marks on the hubcaps.

Please for more information.
Thank you Mike & Nico

what i think...its just the chrome plate stuff wearing off and you can see the green plastic which is what the hub was made of...and i dont know of the VW 1500 saloon had hub caps like the mustang and VW 1600tl and the rolls royce did...i think the 15 VW 1500 saloon only had hubs
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

I'd agree with Brad about the plating coming off which your photo clearly shows or quite likely being missed altogether like the missed foiling of the mag wheels on some of the superfast models.
It certainly was never issued with green hubs like the MB 18 Field Car or MB 61 Alvis Stewart. There is however no reason there couldn't have been a trial model with green hubs as red hubs were given to MB 41 Jaguar and Ford GT.

Cheers, Steve

Thank you Dan and Steve for the information.

But I found this model in my collection.
Long overlooked, but found today.

Cheers Mike

I still have that VW pictured on my site, It is the bare green plastic showing where the chrome plate has worn off.

Lesney liked to use green (later black) plastic for plated parts because the colour made it easy to see if the plating was covering correctly. Baseplates on RW Leyland Ergo trucks, engines in Opel Diplomats as well as hubs on all models that have them can be found made of green plastic. Wonder how long it will be before we find a faker stripping off plating to see green hubs RWs???
