26c GMC tipper truck ?
26c GMC tipper truck ?
Mike & Nico, again on the search for the code number.
The 26c tipper truck has in Nick's code list only one code.
We found three different models.
(see picture).
Please, for information.
Thank you Mike & Nico.

Same answer for this as the Eight Wheel tipper post: Die indicator numbers.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
Re: 26c GMC tipper truck ?
Die numbers.
Re: 26c GMC tipper truck ?
However, these numbers are (1 + 2)
are directly on the model.
are directly on the model.

The model chassis' are cast from dies too Mike, so the die numbers are there for the same reason explained in the 8 wheel tipper thread.

Re: 26c GMC tipper truck ?
lots if not most of the later 60s models had die numbers...the 65 combine has 0 and 1 die numbers...the 38 honda motorcycle and trailer have die numbers 1...2...3...4 on the bike and trailer...just to name a couple of others
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

An small difference in any other modelsjohnboy wrote:The model chassis' are cast from dies too Mike, so they are there for the same reason explained in the 8 wheel tipper thread.
is a new code number.
Why not, with these differences, model 26c. ?

I don't know why all of them didn't have die numbers Mike, possibly it evolved over time as working practices and methods changed. I haven't paid a lot of attention to them but are there any models that are with and without die numbers?mike wrote:An small difference in any other modelsjohnboy wrote:The model chassis' are cast from dies too Mike, so they are there for the same reason explained in the 8 wheel tipper thread.

Re: 26c GMC tipper truck ?
Hello Mike, if during production a casting fault is found on a model, the tooling, mould or die that was used to cast that component, will have to be inspected for damage and to do this they need to know which die was used for that particular casting, as several sets of them will be used to make the models in many quantities. The number on that component (now circled in Yellow), will tell the engineer which die is faulty, causing the casting fault (now arrowed in Red) and the tool maker will repair the faulty, damaged die.
