About the rarity guide

This forum is intended to help us see what exactly are the rarest 1-75 regular wheels and superfast models. I hope all members will take a few minutes to share the details of their own collections in order to build up a larger picture of what is generally available and what is hard to find. Like the 1-75 and superfast casting shows I intend to add one model number per week until we have completed them, If it is successful we can extend the rarity guide to other ranges.

Hello Nick, when you refer to the #1a thick or thin canopy supports, are you meaning the the two fins under the canopy poles please?

This idea of yours is very good and educational for the members.

Hi George. Yes mate it is the poles that hold up the canopy, the code 1 has skinny poles, the code 2 has poles which are much thicker at the top.

Now then Nick you have got me confused on the 1a model, I have the curved roof model with the thin poles and also with the thick poles.

But you do not list the one that has the triangular fins at the top of the poles, or doe,s this variation only come on the model with the thin poles?

With so many advanced collectors on this site, I worry that simply voting on the models in one's collection is a poor way to decide the rarity of a model and as such will produce skewed results.

Why not have a poll that allows members to indicate how difficult a specific variation was to find (difficulty based on how long the search for the variation took, how much of a premium they had to pay for the variation and how many they have seen (in hand) in all their years of collecting).

That would be good if we were able to do it Joe, but the poll feature only allows us to say yes or no, there is no facility to vote for middle of the road models that would rate 5/10 on the rarity scale. so it has to be yay or nay I'm afraid.

I'm wondering how useful this project will be if it is so rigid and limited (playing devils advocate).

Hello Nick I always assumed that the model with the fins was the first variation, as it had the thin poles.

But when they strengthened the support poles (cast them thicker) and then deleted the fins, as all the models after that with a straight canopy base have got the thicker support poles. I assume that is correct as I have never found any documention regards the fins as a support to the canopy.

I think like Joe (tinman) some models that seem rare are available if you have the money But I have been after some more common models but they never seem to turn up either for sale or on ebay. But then again condition always comes into it if you are fussy
