Re: Digger bits
Left blade looks like its from the K8 Caterpillar Traxcavator, right blade is from the 43b Aveling Barford tractor shovel. Very nice Tim

Cheers J, I'm crap with Kings, as you know lol and the 43 threw me cause of the colour.
Re: Digger bits
The colour is very interesting, all the more so because we know from the box art that the later pre-productions and first release were in all yellow. Any obvious casting differences?nearlymint wrote:L...right blade is from the 43b Aveling Barford tractor shovel...

Hello Tim, Hugh and Jason, nearlymint wrote:Left blade looks like its from the K8 Caterpillar Traxcavator, Very nice Tim

I think the grey shovel actually belongs to the K3-b Hatra Tractor Shovel, a model I have always favoured for it moving parts engineering.
If you look on Nicks king size listing for the K8-c Traxcavator he has a pre-pro you can see the shovel is slightly different.
Here is a picture from the 1965 pocket catalogue showing your shovel on the K3-b and looks great in this colour scheme.
It is also shown with this colour scheme on the earlier box and orange on later box. K8-c pic for comparison.
I would suggest this is a K3-b pre-pro shovel or colour trial. Very nice little find.

Re: Digger bits
Need to see a side view I think Yellowfoden, maybe its the same for both models.
The prepro cannot be compared as this is a later type, early one below. J

Yes the strengthening bar is half the width of the ones on Nicks variation site. Will get a pic tomoz.Idris wrote:The colour is very interesting, all the more so because we know from the box art that the later pre-productions and first release were in all yellow. Re: Digger bits
Hi all and hello tjlglass!
Thats an interesting find. My first thought was that the grey one belongs to a Kingsize/Superkings caterpillar traxcavator, maybe a colour trial piece or something like that.
Good idea with the K-3 Hatra, yellowfoden, I didn't think on that one.
I just checked the Big MX colours used on the caterpillar traxcavator, but it seems that they used the standart orange shovels from the Kingsize/Superkings range.
Here are two pictures from two of my traxcavators (yellow and lemon yellow), maybe some help for a comparison.
very interesting thread.
greetings,
Linus
