Happened to have found these, same leveries (labels) on 2 London buses from the two brands.
Looks like the department store in Japan used both brands for its promotion..
The one from tomica also exists in gold and silver plated buses.
The MB17 I have not seen in this livery before. Anyone?
I wonder what code 1/2/3 it is...
cheers,

Re: 2 London buses
code 3 usually show Lesney labels underneath the final label or a rough surface where the factory label has been removed. looking at your excellent photos there is no evidence any other labels are or were ever underneath which means they were factory supplied without labels or labelled in the factory which makes them code 2 !

I like the Tomica bus. It always feels well made.
But its not the first time two manufacturers have been used for the same promotion. Remember the Kelloggs Frosties models. Matchbox Pontiac, Corgi Junior Porsche & Jaguar, and Siku Jeep.

I know Tomy did a joint venture with Matchbox over the Road Blasters series around 1984, so may be they did a similar promotion together in Japan in 1978.
