Re: possible 19d 1b Orange lotus var.
I think it's the 3rd mixed text in orange Mike's and mine being the other two, probably more out there
They are noted in a thread somewhere

thanks reg.. figured it was probably previously covered in here somewhere... lesson learned for the newbie ... //use the search tool before getting too excited. .//
Re: possible 19d 1b Orange lotus var.
The orange paint is over the yellow decal on the nose, yet the sides show orange that is chipping like house paint over a bare casting. Lesney baked factory paint does not chip in this manor. Why would a Racer be stripped to bare metal, the yellow front decal added, and then an orange color painted even over that yellow front decal? Please check this one over carefully because it appears to be a re-paint going only by your two pictures. kwakers
Re: possible 19d 1b Orange lotus var.
that one is sweet Reg... i wish mine had half that much paint left... very nice...
Kwakers... thanks for the scrutinous eye... went and had another closer look with a loupe... what little bit of yellow decal is left on the nose is definitely on top of the orange paint... also goes for what little bit of the side #decals is left.. (even less..lol) i think the culprit is my photos... i really should shoot with a real piece of glass rather than my not so smart phone... rivet /paint seems to look good ... i also looked at the tiny space between the very rear of the undercarriage and the body itself... even the steadiest of hand may have a hard time getting in there without fudging up the undercarriage a bit... all said it looks pretty legit paintwise ... just wish it had a bit more of it ! as to the chipping i surely have no idea... though this thing looks like it did some heavy driving in a roll over position ..ie the poor headless hero onboard...(lol).... i have little MB experience... a bit of painting/glazing experience .... could be an uneven or less than thorough bake... but thats a pure novice guess... i ll leave it for those of you who have more knowledge of the history and processes to ponder...
couple more pics here to maybe give you a better look... but also shot with pretty mediocre camera ...

Re: possible 19d 1b Orange lotus var.
Your pictures are actually quite good elm, well focused and such. By looking closer and now seeing the remains of your side decal, I now see you are correct about the decal being on top of the paint, not under it as I first saw it. The chipping is just some kids serious racing I would guess, and to a degree that is magnified by the clarity of your 'smart phone pictures' that are much closer than the eye could see without a loupe. I keep variations like this in our collection until some day they MAY be upgraded. The mint purists might find fault with doing so, but this orange color model is not very common to find in any code. Thanks for showing yours, and also bringing some humility to me this A.M. kwakers
