of course Kevin , I like oddities like this and made a point of getting this one by putting in a silly high bid fortunately it came in well under a tenner
it's a wonder it went all the way through production without being picked out

As most of know, the operators (all Female), who actually made these models, just excepted whatever components came along and assembled them, they would not know that it was a faulty component, it could just as easily be a modification or another trial model coming down the line for assembly, they just would not question it!

Very nice and unusual Reg. I suppose the tumbling would normally have knocked this flashing out if it had been weaker or thinner but it looks quite robust in the photo despite the little holes. I guess there may have been more like this made at the same time.

those anybody know what exactly went wrong with this model?

I would agree with JB that it wasn't cleaned properly during the tumbling process to remove excess casting material ,
there also seems to be small amounts of flashing to the wheel openings and also windows but only on this side the other has been cleaned as you would normally expect
maybe it got stuck on the side of the drum
