Joy Adamson & Joy of Matchbox

Post by Diecast »

Hi All
I'm finally back. I did some traveling. I traveled through South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. What was very surprised, when I was at the museum in Namibia and saw the collection of Matchbox models. This collection was right next to the exhibition by Joy Adamson (by the way, she was born in the same city as me). It is interesting how far the Matchbox models are widespreaded throughout the world and how much joy came up with them to young and old, small and big, white and black, ...., collectors all around the world. Maybe we would be surprised how much Matchbox collectors are in the world and in which ends of the world are the models located. I would not be surprised if one day there was some collector from North Korea :D

Welcome back Antonin - good to see you here again. The change of username is going to confuse a few people though! :)

Hi Antonin, it's great you're back. It sounds like you had an interesting trip. I was getting worried because you started to look at Superfast variations on the old forum and then you disappeared

Hi John
I am happy to back in Europe. You're right, it was a very interesting trip, during the months I have traveled almost 30,000 kilometers. Vainly I am trying to open old contributions. Are they temporarily unavailable or permanently destroyed?

Martin Avis has very kindly saved most of the topics text from the old forum,
unfortunately in the lefora upgrade most of the pictures that were uploaded directly to lefora got renamed incorrectly so they do not show in the correct threads.
The old forum is still online but the pictures have been converted to a new format which can't be copied.
The old topics will be online when Martin gets the time to do them but will probably be a couple of weeks yet as Martin is very busy at the moment.

I just had a play about with the above photo that I'd posted on befora. I used the "save as bitmap" function and then opened it in paint and reduced it down in size and saved it as a jpeg. It attached here ok, but there may be better ways of doing it, so I'll keep trying.

Hi John.
Try moving your camera back a little bit, then crop the photo close to the model getting rid of most of the background, it works for me.

Thanks for the tip Nick, I'll give that a try. You mentioned in the previous post that the pictures couldn't be copied from the old forum, so I was just seeing if there was a way round it. They seem to be in a .png format so converting them to bitmaps/jpeg's does seem to do the trick.

We could always try photographing them directly from the screen but the problem is they are all jumbled up (or so I have been told)
