Purchasing Dilemma?
Purchasing Dilemma?
All right collectors, I have a little extra money to spend and have the option of purchasing one of the following models. All are within my price range. Which one do I pick based on value for the money and future resell value? Do I pick two of the lesser value ones instead of one of the higher priced ones. All thoughts and opinions are welcome.
#17A Bedford Removals Van (blue)
#22B Vauxhall Cresta (pink & gray)
#27C Cadillac Sixty Special (metallic green)
#31B Ford Fairlane Station Wagon (yellow)
#43A Hillman Minx (apple green)
#46B Pickfords Removal Van (beales)
#47B Commer Ice Cream Canteen (metallic blue)
#55B Ford Galaxie Police Car (dark blue)
#56A London Trolley Bus (black poles)
#59A Ford Thames Van (kelly green, SPW)
#52A Fordson Tractor (yellow hubs)
#74A Mobile Refreshment Canteen (white or cream body)
#75B Ferrari Berlinetta (red)
Thanks, John

I would go for the black-poled 56a. (They're a lot more difficult to find than you would think.) Just make sure that the rivet inside the roof is painted black! (If it's red, it's a fake.)
Re: Purchasing Dilemma?
I wouldn't recommend thinking of any of them as an investment but consider it a hobby purchase. In that mind frame, I would pick the one I most desire at this time.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

Re: Purchasing Dilemma?
Any of the listed models would be great additions to a collection! It is hard to determine "value" without any listed prices, conditions, etc.
I'm with JP (Tinman) on this one --- go after the model or models that appeal to you the most. As long as you have a "wish list", the others will probably follow over time -- hence, the great fun of collecting!
Let us know what you end up doing -- including photos!

I am not a big RW collector, SF is my thing!! (sorry about that, no bulgarians mind!!!)
That said if i had to decide which RW to add to my collection it would have to be the #75B Ferrari Berlinetta in Red, to have such a stunning and rare model in my collection would be just wonderful!!!

Right now I am leaning towards the red Berlinetta. Time will tell though. I will post pictures after my purchase. Looks like it will be a red Christmas for me.

Re: Purchasing Dilemma?
The metallic blue Ice Cream Van is cheap, not on a caliber with the others on your list at all. It is 1/5 the value of the Ferrari, and I have spares of it. The Ferrari in red has been a $500 U.S. model now for almost 40 years since I paid that much for ours back then from a dealer/ collector I STILL buy from today....... He did not overcharge me, I did not pay too much, that model just stays the same $$$.
For that reason, I would watch for 'Bargains' on your list, not just buy the best you find right away at retail for Christmas. The very Wise Tinman is absolutely correct, don't use these rarities you have listed as an investment, they don't appreciate that much over decades of ownership. Buy what YOU like as CHEAP as you can, and that model will always bring a smile to your face when you see it on your shelves. (Even if it is only worth what you paid for it 40 years later) kwakers
