We were told no insertion fee - it was free. Then they added a commission charge to the postage cost as well as the FVF - WTF !
How have they any right to take a commission on postage which is absolutely nothing to do with them - this stinks of criminality to me. I hardly ever sell now and only when its convenient to myself.
If I list something at 99 cents and gets no bids so sells at that price and I have to ship to UK at $17 then the fees to me are $3.28 !!! I lose $2.29 - why would you ever list anything at this low start. No wonder Ebay wants a percentage charge on postage as postal rates have now gone sky high for online shopping to cover the snail mail costs and losses.

Bugger Ebay - they have got to big and greedy and almost dumped the small mum and dad sellers that made them a huge company in the first place. If you want to be a big Amazon and sell new items in shop stores then don't be an auction site anymore (sorry forgot that they are not an auction just facilitate buyers) and pay the tax in the country they earn it from instead of shipping it to some island in the Bahamas

How long before you have to be opted IN to qualify as Top Rated/Premium????
I think you have hit the nail on the head SWT, it is only a matter of time before E bay starts to pressure it's Top Sellers to conform to it's way of trading!!!

This has got to backfire on e bay at some point in the future!!............surely........please.........with any luck!!

I'll just refuse.

It is a big scam from e-bay to make more dosh out of sellers.
What I have done is emailed the sellers and asked if they can ship the packet through regular mail and not a 2nd part like Pitney Bowes.
On both occasions the sellers agreed to ship without using global shipping. It doesn't hurt to ask. ;)

...but isn't the third party cost automatically deducted from your PayPal account? How did you avoid that?

Another query I haven't been able to find the answer to is what happens to all the money that is collected for import charges when items are sold through the gsp (when the item doesn't attract import duty or is below the threshold) because it happens and are VAT rates applied correctly?

To be honest, when I see something that I would normally bid on but has gsp, I skip it. I have messaged sellers before and explained this and one or two have been helpful but some have either not replied or basically said "tough."

All I did is ask the sellers to send me the invoice with regular postage pricing.
Furthermore, I mentioned to them that's it's easier because that way they don't have to ship the packet to Pitney Bowes and pay the postage on it.
I paid, got my MBs and positive feedback was left both ways. Brilliant.

I usually pay import charges only when the item is delivered to me. Why do I need to pay import charges when purchasing the item?
This item ships through the Global Shipping Program. You will be charged for the price of the item at checkout, including shipping and import charges. Import charges include applicable customs duties, taxes, brokerage and other fees. Exclusions apply. Since you pay the import charges when you purchase the item, there are no additional charges at delivery. Import charges must be paid upfront and can't be paid later for items purchased through the Global Shipping Program. For additional information, see the Global Shipping Program terms.

How are the import charges / shipping charges calculated?
The shipping and import charges quoted to you in a listing are real-time estimates of applicable shipping and import charges received from third party service providers. Applicable charges differ based on your designated delivery address. Shipping charges include seller-specified U.S shipping charges as well as estimated international shipping, handling, and other charges to the delivery address that you designate during checkout. Import charges include estimated customs duties, taxes, brokerage and other charges applicable for importation to the delivery address that you designate during checkout. These estimates are subject to change until you make payment during checkout. For additional information, see the Global Shipping Program terms.
