Australian shop display from 1965

Post by Aussieandy »

Hi just showing my 1965 shop display , we know it is 1965 by the price , in feb 1966 Australia went to dollars and cents and matchbox stayed at 35cents to 1970 , when superfast arrived the price rose to 37cents shock we were being robbed , the first time in my life inflation affected me . As regards the models most are mint with boxes , I have lent my collection to Sydney's power house museum as part of sydney model auto club which is a great club with some outstanding collections , mine is very second rate in any compared to some of the older collectors look forward to posting some more items regards andy ps spot the code 3 the aral and Bp not shown

Hi Andy and welcome to the forum. :)
I have taken the liberty to turn and re-size your photo, so that it is a bit easier to see.
I'm noticing a 25c in Esso colors..code 3 ?

Hello Aussieandy I have moved your topic to this area as you had placed it in the wrong forum, as that one is for the model casting # only each week.

But still a very nice showing of models you have posted.

Very very nice and many thanks for posting this great display.
Do you have any other photos of the exhibition at the Powerhouse museum?
In the late eighties there used to be a permanent display of Matchbox toys there sponsered by Matchbox.

Firstly I would like to thank george for putting the photos in the right forum , secondly a not so funny story about the power house collection , I was told it was broken up and sphioned off for a very small amount of money . They have a wonderfull micr models made in the fifties and sixties but not matchbox , our club loaned a great array of rare boxed Benbros , lone star pre war dinky gift sets and some highly sought after items , many major corgi gift sets and the full array of 1-75 from 1953 to 1977 , plus accessories every building , pump , and regular wheel major pack was included that was available from the various members even the pipin toys flyover garage , plus the two colour variations of mg1 service stations , and the esso and Bp two story stations . The power house is now using personal items loaned from the public for many of its displays , due to cut backs but the selling of most of the diecast collection was a bad move , incidentally the micro models are all australian made that is why they survived as Australianna and were moved to the discovery centre at castle hill not at the main site 25 miles away in the city . Kind regards andy

cool display!
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

Andy
I find this all very strange. I went to see the original display of Matchbox models they had when shown at the Powerhouse in the city. These models were donated by Matchbox Australia back then - are you telling me they sold off these models as I find it hard to believe they would. If this is what happens to donated items then if people knew what was happening I doubt they would donate more.
I did a display for them at the Castle Hill building of some of the rarest models from early to late items such as the soapbox cart and major models range but generally across the board on all ranges around 2 years ago.

So the Power house display is gone?

One of the things on a kinda bucket list I had was to see that. Bit like Australia Post had EVERY Australian stamp on display at Latrobe Street office in Melbourne for many years. Where else are you going to see a 5/- Green Harbour Bridge? (rare stamp for Aussie collectors)

Anyway, thanks for the pics. Looked through many toyshop/drapers/newsagent windows at images like that.
Remember the time the price went from 3/3d to 3/6d.
