It a great model,very well made as is the short sided lorry,years ago i think christian posted a pic of the prototype gully truck,i was so impressed i made my own version ,whether this is the real prototype will be hard to prove ,i have the mica magazines but not the ray bush ones so bit of a dead end at the moment,either way,real or not i am really pleased with them

I've just had a quick look in the U.K. Matchbox indexes (indices?) but nothing jumps out at me, so finding that photograph is going to take a bit more work. However, the image I have in my mind's eye is one with a darker coloured tank although, having said that, the boom and hose is exactly as I recall them.
One thing troubles me, which is that, since the prototype was already in the hands of a collector and recognised for what it was all that time ago, is it credible that it should be sold off, first of all, to a random member of the general public at a swapmeet, and then auctioned on Ebay? I think the answer has to be no.
That then leaves two, possibly three, alternatives:
i) this is a home-made copy,
ii) the toolmaker made more than one example, perhaps in order to show off different liveries, or
iii) the model was quite far advanced before it was axed, with a number of examples being assembled for evaluation purposes. (This would also explain the Worthpoint link to what is presumably, another example.)

I totally agree with your points,my gully truck is clearly not the one sold by vectis,the only link to lesney is that is was supposed to have been bought off an ex employee,i am totally happy with the models (really happy actually ) and think it was made by someone skilled lesney or not .The other converted cattle truck again is well made and the plastic base has a gold look to it,i know this could be caused by various factors but i don,t know if plastic cattle truck bases are prone to going gold?
