Here is the 'Crested' Silver Spirit, both versions, one with the small interior mirror and one with the larger interior mirror. My sincere apologies to "Ritchie" for telling him it was Macau and 1986...what utter rubbish! I have no idea what listing I was looking at, because it's not on the listing now...and here is a section of my Silver Spirit listing, with the 'Crested' models at #15 and #16, what on earth was I looking at and it just shows you no matter how efficient you think your paperwork is, go and check the bloody models themselves!
The 'Crested' versions are at No.15 and 16 on the above listing, so how could I mistake them for Macau and 1986 issue...

Re: The Rolls-Royce Collection.
Just worked-out how the mistake was made for the above 'Crested' model. On the #39e Silver Shadow II thread with some fine pictures posted by "Ritchie", Nick came in and asked me about a model with a 'Crest' on the doors, I went and looked on my #39e Silver Shadow II versions listing, because we were commenting about that model on the thread, the model Nick was asking about was a Silver Spirit and not the Silver Shadow II and that is why I relayed the wrong information.
Have now looked at my #39e versions listing and sure enough, there is the entry for Macau, 1986 and '100 years of motoring' for a Silver Shadow II, so both my version listings are still correct and I simply looked at the wrong one, so I blame Nick, for asking about a model we was not even commenting about on the thread...that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it...

Re: The Rolls-Royce Collection.
speaking of the colouring of the mattel hot wheels silver shadow, there're rumours that the rolls-royce management was upset about the various spectraflame colours hot wheels used on their silver shadow releases. i wonder what they would feel if they had later learnt about the colouring of matchbox bulgarian and hungarian made rolls-royce...GHOSTHUNTER wrote:I have not seen a written example, but part of the requirement to have a license from Rolls-Royce to make toys and models, is to keep to the overall image of what Rolls-Royce is all about, the models have to be representative, they have to be as accurate as possible within the given restraints of the material in use (in this case metal), they have to be in sober colours, if possible colours seen on the real cars. This is something 'MATTEL' had problems with when they painted their Silver Shadow in bright 'Metalflake' colours, they could not market them in the U.K. only a Silver-Grey or Pink version came here (arguably Pink is surely not right for a Rolls-Royce car, but yes it was allowed), but the overall look and design of the Hot Wheels version keeps it in the 'Toy' category.
If it is to be a toy...

Unfortunately we wont be seeing any 'toy' rolls-royce in the near future since presently rolls-royce doesn't want their name to associate with toys selling for $1.

Another odd variation on the Silver Spirit is the size of the grille moulding, from September 1988 onwards, the grille is smaller, two pictures below show the two sizes and it is not because of play-ware or one moulding being mounted higher or lower than the other one. Look at the head-on picture and measure the actual grilles yourself using some white card placed on your screen with some pencil reference marks, you will see the grille on the left model is larger!!

Great finding! I just checked my silver spirit models and note the same grille difference. And i start sorting out the models for the interior mirror size differences tooGHOSTHUNTER wrote:Another odd variation on the Silver Spirit is the size of the grille moulding, from September 1988 onwards, the grille is smaller, two pictures below show the two sizes and it is not because of play-ware or one moulding being mounted higher or lower than the other one. "There is so much to learn"...somebody said this on the forum a while back and its so true, there is so much to learn and I am learning all the while, so I have to work on my collection all the while...!
Right then, you now know about the interior mirror sizes and you now know about the grille sizes, wait until I tell you about the wheels on the above Silver Spirits...
