1960's Chinese Tin Toy

Post by McCarthyMR »

So, almost fully packed up the house for moving and I re-found my old sparkling tank tin toy.

As you do, I started to search online for this toy but can only find examples without the little man sticking his head out of the window. So, I'm wondering two things. Firstly, is this a european variation from the same era or... secondly, is this a later repro. Anyone help on here is appreciated.

Hello McCarthyMR, your tank is the European version from the 1970's because the box lid says 'TANK'. The original Chinese version (shown below), has this same word but in Chinese and the little man is supposed to be a non-Chinese person to help with the effect of this toy fitting-in with the non-Chinese markets.

Not sure who makes these but it is one of a couple of different 'Sparkling Tank' designs and a company using the 'METAL KING' name has marketed them.

Thanks Ghosty, informative as always. :)

Does make me wonder how rare the european version is considering I have yet to find any other examples online?
