Some other 18s to add to George's mix:
A few years back during the good MCCH days there was someone from England (sadly, I forget who ) who had a tray full of 18A models with axles that had never been crimped. That collector was kind enough to sell them off to other collectors and one found its way to my shelf:
Here's an example of the 18B that came in a Lionel flat-car set:
Here is a lineup of 18C models with the three roller variations: metal, silver plastic, black plastic

Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

Thanks. It is a nice crisp example. IIRC, it has only been out of its box a few times.

Re: Casting #18
The 2 SPW variants of the 18, the C and D castings remain among my favorites. Greg did a good job in capturing what appears to be a sweet 18D. I believe that in the US, the 18C is harder to find than the 18D, but according to informed dealers and at least one other authority in Europe and in the UK the opposite registers in comparitive scarcity . I note that in the recent Vectis sale of Ralph Richter's collection, neither were offered in the catalog. - E

I have mentioned it yet. Just to remember. There are two unlisted variations: the base plate with small and large "C".
